Q&A with Kalyn Aschmann
Hi, I’m Kalyn, the newbie at YDC. I studied marketing communications at AAA School of Advertising. I wrote my last final exam two weeks go, and here I am. I’ve only been at YDC for a week, but I’ve found it extremely exciting to put things in to practice that I’ve been taught over the past three years.
I am a very dedicated, hardworking person; I put all my efforts into everything that I do. I believe that if you’re going to do something, give it your all otherwise don’t attempt it to begin with. I would definitely say that I enjoy a good challenge; it keeps me on my toes.
What is your position in the YDC team?
How would you describe your role?
Making coffee, fetching documents from the printers…joking. My day to day tasks include creating content for social media posts, writing blog posts, scheduling updates and brainstorming new ideas.
When did you start working at YDC?
06 November 2017
What part of your job do you enjoy most?
I love that no two days are the same. You’re constantly working on new tasks and are faced with new challenges every day. I would say that I enjoy the digital aspect the most, It’s very interesting.
What part of your role do you find the most challenging?
I find it extremely fast paced. You’re working on many different brands at once. There’s also so many different processes and programs that you need to work on, it’s a bit overwhelming at first, but I’m getting the hang of it.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the YDC team?
It’s a small team, so it feels like a little family. Everyone’s super kind and always willing to help you, it really is great!
What do you do when you’re stuck for inspiration?
Take a break, go for a walk or get some coffee. That normally does the trick.
What is your pre-work routine?
Some days I like to go to gym or for a morning run along the beachfront if the weather is good. Other days I like to sleep in and wake up to some coffee and good music.
If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?
Ooo, definitely Wonder Woman because of her fighting spirit.
What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?
Spending quality time with family and friends.
What music do you like to listen to while working?
I actually don’t listen to music while I work, especially when it’s something that requires a lot of concentration. I just end up getting distracted and singing along to the song instead of focusing on the task. When I do listen to music, it’s literally all genres. It depends on the kind of day I’m having.
Introvert or extrovert?
Cats or dogs?
Dogs all the way.
Shoes or barefoot?
I wear shoes most of the time but I do enjoy being barefoot sometimes.
What’s your favourite spot on Kloof Street?
Nourish’d. Emma took me there on my second day at YDC for a smoothie and I LOVE it!
