5 ways to ramp up your social media engagement
We all know that it’s important for brands to be on social media. But how many of you have stopped to think about why, or what the value of real engagement with your target market is?
If you just say things and speak to your audience rather than having a two-way conversation, you are missing opportunities to increase social media engagement.
I mean if conversion is king, then engagement is queen, right? So, when you interact regularly, you‘re building the relationships that can drive conversions and profits. Here are a few tips that we use at Yellow Door to increase social media engagement and improve awareness of our clients’ brands.
The power of visual prowess
One of the most powerful ways to increase social media engagement is to incorporate visual content. A case study from Buffer in 2018 indicated that images led to an 85% interaction rate on Facebook and increased shares of content by 35%.
Pictures draw the eye and increase the chances that people will absorb and interact with your social media posts. So much so, platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest and Snapchat have thrived on the power of visual storytelling. Here is an example of a post we recently created for our client hi online.
If it’s appropriate for your brand, incorporate humour and have your personality shine through in your social media posts. Remember that being genuine is key to building strong customer relations.
It’s often hard to break through the social media noise to get people’s attention, and especially when content is promotional in nature. However, when you add humour, you add value to their day outside of what your products or services themselves provide.
This sort of content brings smiles to faces and fosters a more favourable view of your brand. It is also likely to lead to an increase in social media engagement and shares as people choose to pass along the content that makes them laugh.
Ask for feedback and reviews
Want to get your followers talking? Don’t be afraid to ask them to share their opinions! Many people are very happy to talk about the products or services they like and the ones that they feel could use improvement.
You can ask them to leave their reviews and feedback as comments or direct readers to the review section on your Facebook page. If happy reviewers leave their opinions, they provide valuable information for those who have not yet decided whether or not they wish to use your product or service.
Sponsor a giveaway
People simply love free things. Take advantage of this to increase social media engagement by upping your likes and shares. Start with simple posts on your brand’s social pages and create an engaging contest that people would want to share with their friends for a chance to win one of your products. These posts are most eye-catching when they include a high-quality image or video of one of your products.
You can go for even more engagement by encouraging people to share an image or a text post that includes a specially-designated hashtag on Twitter and Instagram. The hashtag approach gives you the advantage of seeing quickly and easily how many people are engaging with your content. It also makes it easy for new people to follow the hashtags back to your original post and engage with your brand.
If you ask, be sure to have the answer
When you’re looking to increase social media engagement for your brand, whether that be in your social media posts via a poll, or just overall feedback on your product or service, make sure you have the means to respond. An easy way to do this is to have someone monitor your social page(s) to look at and respond to the questions. Make sure that your replies are friendly – a social media fight is more likely to harm than help your brand. If people respond with issues or complaints, get them into direct messages (DMs) and solve their problems as soon as possible.
