Q&A with Kudzanai Makanza

I am a Bcom Strategic Brand Management graduate from Vega and I am enrolling into my Honours next year. There is nothing I love more than my family and friends (maybe football). Having grown up in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa my heart has two homes in Harare and Cape Town. I see myself as a diverse and open-minded person as I am always keen for new experiences.

What is your position in the Yellow Door team?
Job shadowing/ internship.

What part of your job do you enjoy most?
The flexibility. There are so many different tasks and challenges that you can face every day, which makes the job interesting. Every situation must be dealt with differently which is great for independent thinking and decision making.

What part of your role do you find the most challenging?
Understanding the exact demands and expectations required from me.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the Yellow Door team?
The working environment. I like how the team is involved or interested in each other’s personal lives, which makes coming to work a really enjoyable experience.

What do you do when you’re stuck for inspiration?
I take a step back from the situation to clear my head and try to analyse the block from different perspectives. I will often find a quiet place, preferably surrounded by nature, and try to practice mindfulness.

What is your pre-work routine?
Wake up and read the Bible, shower, clean my room, breakfast (with music playing constantly).

If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?
I would be Robin Hood. With the inequality I see every day in South Africa, the tale of Robin Hood’s generosity to the poor and his rebellion to the oppressive laws is admirable. So I’d be stealing from the rich to give to the poor (metaphorically); although I also see it as sharing the world’s wealth.

What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?
A weekend at home watching football with my dad and friends over some drinks, with some form of physical activity preferably social football to end it off.

What music do you like to listen to while working?
It depends on the type of work I am doing. If it requires brain capacity and concentration I listen to deep house, electronic or classical music. If the work is more systematic or mindless and repetitive, I listen to grime (British rap).

Introvert or extrovert?
I would say ambivert as it depends on how I am feeling. My extroverted personality tends to come out either around people I know well or if I am excited about something. My introverted personality comes out when I’m tired and stressed.

Cats or dogs?

Shoes or barefoot?
Barefoot as long as the floors are clean.

What’s your favourite spot in Gardens?
Asoka for the win!

Please fill in your details and we will contact you to book your workshop.
