Q&A with Kerry-Ann

Kerry-Ann has lived in Cape Town for over five years and has just began building her experience with our team. She has just started getting involved in Yellow Door’s work and is keen to see where it all takes her. Curious? Read her Q&A below.

What is your position in the YD team?

I am the marketing intern at Yellow Door Collective.

What part of your job do you enjoy most?

I have part’’s’’ that I love. Absorbing so much new knowledge has left me feeling like a kid in a candy store. The other part that I love are the Yellow Door people, good people are a treat to come across.

What part of your role do you find the most challenging?

Being new in the company and the industry means that there are a lot of times that an information overload leaves you feeling overwhelmed, so I would say learning how to handle a lot of information and ‘newness’ well is what I am working on right now.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the YD team?

First the people, you are instantly welcome as you are, which is rare and wonderful to experience. I also love the work culture because it allows you to work hard, do detailed-oriented work and still laugh in between. And then there’s the actual yellow door that you walk through every day, a small thing that makes you smile each morning.

What do you do when you’re stuck for inspiration?

That honestly doesn’t happen often, I get inspired way too easily. When I do get stuck, I look at other people’s work around me and at their work in the world in general. People really do create the most beautiful things.

What is your pre-work routine?

Okay, so:

I wake up, make my bed, do a stretch routine, meditate, journal, go for a walk with coffee and an inspiring podcast, shower, change and eat brekkie while talking to someone I love on the phone or listening to jazz, hop in the car and arrive at work.

If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?

I don’t want to be superman but I wouldn’t complain if I woke up one day and was able to fly.

What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?

Being active in nature and being with people that I love, with just a bit of work here and there when I get inspired.

What music do you like to listen to while working?

work jazz.

Introvert or extrovert?

A bit of both, but more of an introvert.

Cats or dogs?

Younger me would’ve said cats but I’m getting ready to adopt a dog this coming month.

Shoes or barefoot?

It depends where I am, barefoot on the beach sand but shoes when I walk around at home- I have almost injured myself a few times reaching for a slipper that was too far.

Pizza or salad, or neither?

Immediately pizza.

Please fill in your details and we will contact you to book your workshop.
